Brief Description of Research
This research aims to scientifically elucidate the impacts of climate change and land-use changes on ecosystems in vulnerable regions of Asia. To achieve this goal, we utilize remote sensing technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and integrated modeling techniques to assess the vulnerability of regional environments and clarify the impacts of these changes. Furthermore, based on the data and analysis results obtained, we propose region-specific sustainable environmental management strategies and concrete adaptation measures to enhance the resilience of local communities and promote sustainable development. The outcomes of this research are expected to provide new insights into environmental science and contribute to policy formulation at both regional and global levels.
In previous studies, I was involved in constructing a digital map set for sustainability diagnosis using GIS and developing a land productivity model, laying the foundation for subsequent diverse research activities. Participation in significant projects such as the modeling of ecosystem functions in the watershed areas of East Asia and the Integrated Environmental Monitoring sub-project of the Asia-Pacific Environmental Innovation Strategy Project (APEIS) led to the successful development of systems for receiving and analyzing MODIS satellite data and ground observation systems. Further leading the construction of an early observation network for the impacts of global warming and the development of the East Asia Water and Material Cycle Evaluation System, I explored the effects of climate change.
In Mongolia, I conducted evaluations of the vulnerability of permafrost areas, measurements of carbon dioxide absorption in grassland areas, and estimates of the carrying capacity of grazing lands, exploring measures to respond to global warming. These research activities significantly contribute to understanding the impacts of climate change and land-use changes on regional environments and aiming for a sustainable future.
