Figotintinnus

Figotintinnus Hada, 1976 (ref. ID; 5624 original paper)

Order Tintinnida: Family Tintinnidae: Subfamily Amphorellineae (ref. ID; 5624)

[ref. ID; 5624]
Comments; Owing to a species of the Tintinnida having a tubular cuticular lorica attaching on the other object, the species has been included until now in following genera: Trichoda and Vaginicola of the Subclass Holotrichia, and Tintinnidium, Tintinnopsis and Tintinnus belonging to the Order Tintinnida of the Subclass Spirotricha. Of the three genera, the species of two genera, Tintinnidium and Tintinnopsis, carry an arenaceous lorica, while the other, Tintinnus, has a cuticular lorica. Therefore, the above-mentioned species is allied to the pelagic species of the genus Tintinnus with a cuticular lorica. However, the species is apparently different from those of the genus Tintinnus having a tubular lorica instead of a pot-shaped lorica, so that the new genus Figotintinnus has been established for the old species.
