Animal trumpet-shaped lying within a usually clear and colorless pseudochitinous lorica which is roughly cylindrical, erect and attached directly to the substratum without a stalk. Each lorica may contain 1 or 2 animals (rarely more), which protrude beyond the simple aperture without valves. The zooids are directly attached to the lorica. The macronucleus is usually moniliform but is sometimes elongate and ribbon-like. Most easily confused with Thuricola which has a valved lorica.
