The Tenth Tripartite Presidents Meeting (TPM10) will be held in Nanjing, China between November 5 (Tuesday) and November 7 (Thursday), 2013. The Tripartite Presidents Meeting was first convened as a means to further environmental research among Japan, Korea and China involving the three leading environmental research institutes in their respective countries – the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan; the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), Korea; and the Chinese Research Academy for Environmental Sciences (CRAES), China. An International Workshop will be held at Nanjing International Expo Centre in parallel with TPM10 on November 6 (Wednesday). The theme of this workshop is Freshwater Pollution.
 

1.Purpose of TPM

The Tripartite Presidents Meeting (TPM) among Japan, Korea and China was first convened in 2004 as a means to further environmental research, with one the three countries serving as meeting host on respective years. This year marks the tenth TPM, which is to be held in Nanjing, China.

At TPM itself, the Presidents and affiliated researchers of the three leading institutions for environmental research in their respective countries – the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan; the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), Korea; and the Chinese Research Academy for Environmental Sciences (CRAES), China – will carry out focused discussions aimed at furthering the goals of environmental research in the Asian region, including those on the potential areas for research collaboration. In addition, an International Workshop will be held at Nanjing International Expo Centre in parallel with TPM10 on November 6 (Wednesday). The theme of this year’s workshop is Freshwater Pollution.

     (3)November 7 (Thursday): Site investigation at Lihu Lake and Gonghu Lake
                         for ecological restoration

3. TPM Main Meeting (closed-door)

Venue: Fairmont Nanjing (Nanjing City, China)

Date: November 5 (Tuesday), 2013 Time: 09:00-17:30

Participants: Presidents and affiliated researchers of NIES, NIER and CRAES

Meeting Agenda: At the Main Meeting an exchange of information on research development activities and discussion of initiatives to further research ties and collaboration among the three countries will be conducted. This will be followed by the drafting of a Joint Communique to reflect commitments on the following day.

4. TPM10 International Workshop

Venue: Nanjing International Expo Centre (Nanjing City, China)

Date: November 6 (Wednesday), 2013 Time: 10:00-16:50

Theme: Freshwater Pollution Issues (International Conference on Clean Water Action)

Overview: An International Workshop on a specific theme is held every year in parallel with the TPM in order to share information from the respective participant countries and further research collaboration in relation to the environmental issues of East Asia.
At TPM10 this will take the form of a public workshop to be co-hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, Jiangsu Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, CRAES, NIES and NIER.. At the workshop, in addition to the three participating institutes from Japan, Korea and China, researchers on freshwater pollution from Australia, the Netherlands and Jiangsu Province, China, as well as other stakeholders will attend and participate in the lectures and discussions.

5. Signing Ceremony for Joint Communiqué (closed door)

Venue: Nanjing International Expo Centre (Nanjing City, China)

Date: November 6 (Wednesday), 2013 Time: 17:30-18:00

Participants: Presidents and affiliated researchers of NIES, NIER and CRAES

Details: Signing of a Joint Communique by the three Presidents based on agreements from the TPM10 meeting by the three institutes

The outcomes of the meeting and Joint Communiqué will be made public on the NIES Homepage soon after the end of TPM
