Medium-sized pyriform ciliate. The peristome extends from the apical pole to the middle of the cell and there is a shallow buccal cavity. Membranelles in line along peristome, M1 long, M2 square and M3 small. Undulating membrane extends from M2 to posterior of peristome. Somatic ciliation uniform with no post-oral kineties. Cytoproct is slit-like and post-orally located. Contractile vacuole terminal. Oval macronucleus centrally positioned with a micronucleus. One of the freshwater species, like the genus Espejoia, is associated with the mucus of chironomid eggs.
