Medium sized elongate to ellipsoid ciliate. Oral aperture in anterior body third, oval to tear-shape. Membranelle M3 split into several pieces. This ciliate exists in two morphological forms, as a microstome and as a macrostome. In the macrostome the oral aperture commonly extends to the apex of the cell. There is a pre-oral suture in the microstome. Uniform somatic ciliation comprising about 40 kineties and 6 or 7 post-oral kineties. A single paroral kinety running along the right edge of the oral aperture. The cytoproct is ribbon-like located at the posterior end of kinety K1. Macronucleus shape varies from ovoid to irregular. These ciliates are found in association with the mucilaginous material that surrounds the eggs of certain aquatic insects, mollusks and thalli of algae.
