Lorica small, lying horizontally on side with short, obliquely held, upturned neck. Lower side of lorica flattened, dorsal side convex when viewed laterally, rounded when viewed dorsally. 2 delicate membranes, which are difficult to see, are used to close the lorica at the base of the neck. The animal has 2 short unequal peristomial lobes which cover it when means of a wide spatula-like foot. Single spherical macronucleus. Most easily confused with Botticula which has a long neck region to the lorica and a macronucleus in the form of a string of beads. Single freshwater species.
