NIES Summer Open House: July 23 (Saturday), 2011

The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) will hold its annual Summer Open House this Saturday July 23 from 09:30-16:00. (Reception will close at 15:00). Many of the facilities on the Onogawa campus will be open to the public. If you wish to attend, there is no need to apply, just turn up on the day. In addition, all visitors to the event will receive special presents including an original NIES eco-bag.

Lots of fun activities are planned - in particular interactive activities for children to learn more about environmental issues. There will also be guided tours of the NIES campus in English in the morning and afternoon. This year’s theme is “Let’s find out! - Our Planet and the Environment”. With lectures on global warming and what we can do about it; a nature walk; a campus tour in English; and a variety of booths and activities including - “Marvel at Mysterious Fish and the Wonders of the Sea”; “Save Energy! Reduce Carbon Dioxide!”; “A Beginner’s Guide to Biodiversity”; and “Let’s look at Brains!” – visitors have the chance to marvel anew at seemingly familiar environmental issues and learn about the range of research at NIES.
