Glaucoma Ehrenberg, 1830
Synonym; Dallasia Stokes (ref. ID; 1618)
[ref. ID; 2014]
Small to medium-sized ovoid ciliate. Oral aperture in anterior body third whose axis runs obliquely to that of the cell, oval in shape. Pre-oral suture oblique on left side of oral aperture. Undulating membrane inconspicuous but membranelle M2 very well developed and easily visible as a beating membrane in the aperture. There is an 'X' body frequently associated with the anterior end of membranelle M2. Uniform somatic ciliation usually with several post-oral meridians. Contractile vacuole on posterior right-hand side of cell. Single, spherical macronucleus centrally located with an adjacent micronucleus.
