Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Gymnostomata: Order Prostomatida: Suborder Prostomatina: Family Metacystidae (ref. ID; 2013)
Synonym Pelamphora Lauterborn, 1901 (ref. ID; 3540) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618)

Body shape irregularly ovoid, sometimes with broad anterior end, sometimes widest in middle of body. Circular oral aperture apically located leading to a conical cytopharynx that is supported by trichites. Somatic ciliation uniform arising from bipolar kinetosomes, with a group of half a dozen long caudal cilia. There are 3 groups of cilia encircling the mouth, that nearest the oral aperture consists of a single row, the next is a double row and the ring nearest the somatic cilia consists of 4 closely set ciliary rows. Lives in a thin, transparent membranous lorica which has a single narrow aperture. Inhabits anaerobic where it feeds upon sulfur bacteria.
Most easily confused with Pelatractus which does not have caudal cilia and has a different arrangement of peribuccal cilia.
