Body outline shape elongate oval with notches and projections at each end. Rigid body, laterally compressed. Somatic ciliature reduced to few (about 12) long cilia at either end of the cell, cilia borne only upon right-hand surface excepts for the single ventral cilium. Cytopharynx supported by trichites, oral aperture opens at end of an anteriorly situated ventral projection which is the major generic feature. Below the oral aperture there is a line of fine cilia. The left side of the body is deeply furrowed longitudinally. There are 2 contractile vacuoles. The spherical macronucleus is centrally situated with an adjacent micronucleus.
