Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Suctoria: Order Suctorida: Suborder Exogenina (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Body approximately trumpet-shaped, covered in a thick pellicle. Posterior end of body narrowed, attached to freshwater invertebrates, particularly shrimps. Sometimes has a rudimentary lorica at its base which is an extension of the pellicle. Tentacles are restricted to the perimeter of the wide apical region. They may be capitate and of medium length (Stammer, 1935) or short and non-contractile (Nozawa, 1938). Macronucleus is band-like and reproduction is by exogenous budding vermiform larvae. Recent work by Matthes and Plachter (1978) has described the development of these vermiform unciliated larvae which actively move in a leech-like manner.
