[ref. ID; 2014]
Small to medium sized ciliate, elongate to oval in outline shape and usually flattened dorso-ventrally. The oral aperture lies in the anterior body half, and is displaced to the left in the flattened forms. The undulating membrane bow-shaped on the right of the peristome and its posterior end may form pocket-like pouch. Membranelles M1 and M2 lie in the anterior half of the peristome. Membranelle M3 varies from being a small posterior left field of kinetosomes to a large C-shaped membranelle which may be visible in living specimens. Somatic ciliation in longitudinal kineties. A row of rather more closely-set kinetosomes travels between peristome and apical end sometimes borne upon a ridge. Usually 2 or 3 post-oral kineties, and a caudal cilium. Contractile vacuole in posterior body half. Macronucleus more or less centrally situated with an adjacent micronucleus.
