Outline shape reniform with pronounced short rostrum that is bent towards the left. Uniformly ciliated all over body, cilia arising in pairs. Oval oral aperture situated in center of ventral surface near to the base of rostrum. There is a paroral membrane with paired ciliary bases situated on the right of the oral aperture. On the left of the mouth there is a line of membranelles which extends forward from its base to the end of the rostrum. Each membranelle arises from a short double row of kinetosomes. The rounded macronucleus is centrally placed and there is a terminal contractile vacuole. Two species have been reported to date, both from temporary pools in Africa. Most easily mistaken for Kuklikophrya in which genus the membranelles arise from the anterior end of the mouth. In Rostrophrya the membranelles arise from the posterior end of the oral aperture.
