Body outline shape elongate, flask-like, sometimes slightly asymmetrical, pellicle with widely separated longitudinal ribs and furrows. Some species rounded in cross-section, others somewhat compressed. Oral aperture apical at end of short neck or snout region. Uniform cilia cover the body, those near the oral aperture longer than rest. Usually 1 (rarely 2) spherical macronucleus, centrally located. Contractile vacuole terminal.

Descriptions

Cylindrical, tapering gradually to a truncated anterior end, slightly curved ventrally; cilia (6-10 um long) sparsely distributed; two macronuclei, spherical; in concentrated brine (salts "34.8 per cent; pH 9.48") from Searles Lake. (ref. ID; 1618)
