Pseuduronema

Pseuduronema Hoare, 1927 (ref. ID; 2014)

Class Oligohymenophora: Subclass Hymenostomata: Order Scuticociliatida (ref. ID; 2014)

[ref. ID; 2014]
Small to medium (20-90 um long) oval ciliate that may be slightly compressed laterally and broadened posteriorly. Oral aperture in anterior body third is oval in outline shape and its major axis is parallel with the body axis. There is an undulating membrane on the right and a series of dense cilia on the left. Somatic cilia are uniformly spread. The kineties meet anteriorly in an arch-like manner to form a pre-oral suture. There is no post-oral suture but there are some post-oral kineties. Contractile vacuole in posterior body half. Spherical macronucleus centrally located with adjacent micronuclei. Most easily mistaken for Uronema. Hoare (1927) states the Pseuduronema may be distinguished from that genus by its larger size, more closely-set cilia, its more anterior oral aperture and larger number of kineties. The only two species in the genus were described under generic name of Uronema.
