Pseudoprorodon

Pseudoprorodon Kahl, 1930 (ref. ID; 2013) or Blochmann, 1866 (ref. ID; 4757), 1886 (ref. ID; 3540, 3690) or 1895 (ref. ID; 4730)

Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Gymnostomata: Order Prostomatida: Suborder Prorodontina: Family Prorodontidae (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Body outline shape usually elongate but sometimes oval, often laterally flattened. Oral aperture is an apically situated long slit which is supported by many fine trichites. The oral slit is surrounded by a row of double kinetosomes (peribuccal ciliature) which extends past the slit on one edge down to the middle of the body. The dorsal 'brush' is represented by a single short row of closely packed kinetosomes which lies between and parallel with the longitudinal somatic kineties in the anterior quarter of the body although unlike the somatic kineties, the oral brush does not reach the peribuccal kinety. Macronucleus elongate, ribbon-like. Contractile vacuole terminal. Most easily confused with Prorodon which has fewer but larger (double) trichites and a rounded apical oral aperture. Furthermore the dorsal brush of Prorodon is composed of 3 kineties of paired kinetosomes. Generic name was erected by Kahl (1930) although he attributes it to Blochmann (1886) (see: ref. ID; 3540).
