Pseudogemma metacinetarum Nozawa, 1938 (ref. ID; 3475 original paper)

Descriptions

The species is parasitic on another suctor Metacineta yoshii n. sp. The body is mushroom-shaped, with a fibrillose rudimentary stalk. The apical end of the stalk extends like the head of a mushroom, while the other end is dilated and serves for attachment. The macronucleus is single and ovoid. Two contractile vacuole are present, one on each side of the nucleus. There is neither tentacle nor test. This species is characterized by its large mushroom-shaped body. In size it exceeds much any of the three species described by Collin (1912-13). The reproduction is probably by means of internal budding, though it has not been observed owing to the rare occurrence of the form. (ref. ID; 3475)

Comments

According to Collin, Acineta and Paracineta are the hosts of his species. The present species is parasitic on a suctor of another genus, Metacineta. (ref. ID; 3475)

Type locality

Parasitic on Metacineta yoshii n. sp., attached to the shells of Viviparus found in a pond in Husimi (Rokuzizo), Kyoto (May 1937) (ref. ID; 3475)

Measurements

Height of body 34, breadth of body 66, length of stalk 10 um. (ref. ID; 3475)
