Protorhabdonella

Protorhabdonella Jorgensen, 1924

[ref. ID; 3596]
Lorica small, elongate or stout goblet-shaped; oral rim circular, sometimes with a fairly developed oral groove; bowl usually conical, tapering into an aboral horn in some species; wall single-layered, hyaline, a number of ribs running longitudinally or somewhat spirally on the surface. (ref. ID; 3596)
  1. Protorhabdonella curta (Cleve) Jorgensen (ref. ID; 3596, 3597) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 4464)
  2. Protorhabdonella mira Kofoid & Campbell (ref. ID; 3597)
  3. Protorhabdonella simplex (Cleve, 1900) (ref. ID; 4600) reported year? (ref. ID; 3596) or (Cleve) Jorgensen (ref. ID; 3597, 4046)
  4. Protorhabdonella striatura Kofoid & Campbell (ref. ID; 3597, 4046)

Protorhabdonella curta (Cleve) Jorgensen (ref. ID; 3596, 3597) reported author and year? (ref. ID; 4464)

Descriptions

Lorica minute, chalice-shaped, 1.78-2.00 oral diameters in length; oral margin simple, entire, slightly flaring; bowl somewhat dilated in the promedian part, then conical (55-60 degrees) to the moderately acute aboral end; surface ornamented with numerous ribs running longitudinally through the entire lorica and sometimes branching. (ref. ID; 3596)

Comments

The species differs from P. simplex (Cleve) in its greater number of ribs and the simpler structure of the oral rim. (ref. ID; 3596)

Measurements

Length 53 (50-55); oral diameter 28 (26-29) um. (ref. ID; 3596)
Length 40-48; oral diameter 25-28 um. (ref. ID; 3597)

Protorhabdonella simplex (Cleve, 1900) (ref. ID; 4600) reported year? (ref. ID; 3596) or (Cleve) Jorgensen (ref. ID; 3597, 4046)

Descriptions

Lorica elongated coniform, 1.76 oral diameters in length; oral margin erect or sloping to an oral rim from a slightly elevated suboral ring; bowl more or less dilated to the broadest portion, its greatest diameter 1.1 oral diameters, then convex conical and distally tapering to a blunt or acute aboral point; wall hyaline, composed of separated lamellae in the anterior part above the broadest portion and of a single-layered lamella in the posterior conical region, provided with 6-7 longitudinal striae extending from the suboral ring to the aboral end. (ref. ID; 3597)
The lorica is hyaline and pointed posteriorly resembling Rhabdonella amor (Cleve) Brandt in shape. Approximately 7 or 8 longitudinal striations extend from the anterior rim to the tip of the lorica. (ref. ID; 4046)

Comments

The species differs from P. curta (Cleve) in having the partially separated wall and few striae. (ref. ID; 3597)

Measurements

Length 54-58; oral diameter 30-33 um. (ref. ID; 3597)
The dimensions of the lorica are: length 47-49, width 31-33 um (n=2). (ref. ID; 4046)

Protorhabdonella striatura Kofoid & Campbell (ref. ID; 3597, 4046)

Descriptions

Lorica elongated, chalice-shaped, 4.8 oral diameters in length; bowl gradually tapering (7 degrees) in the anterior 0.3 of the lorica, more abruptly (23 degrees) in the aboral region; pedicel slender, about 0.3 of the total length, conical (7 degrees) to a pointed tip; wall composed of a single-layer except the oral 0.08 of the lorica surface ornamented with numerous vertical striae. (ref. ID; 3597)
The lorica is hyaline, elongate, and tapers to a point aborally. It has a prominent. Very slightly flared oral rim. Longitudinal ribs extend to the tip of the lorica. (ref. ID; 4046)

Comments

The species differs from P. mira Kofoid & Campbell in the slender pedicel and great number of striae. (ref. ID; 3597)

Measurements

Length 130; oral diameter 27 um. (ref. ID; 3597)
The dimensions of the lorica are: length 121-141, width 26.4+/-3.3 um (n=8). (ref. ID; 4046)
