Body approximately ovoid, covered with a continuos coat of uniform cilia. Anterior region with conspicuous field of cilia as in Stentor and this is surrounded by an AZM which spiral clockwise to the cytostome. 1 or 2 completely contractile tentacle-like structures project laterally and asymmetrically from the side of the body. They are covered in cilia which are longer than those of the body. Macronucleus moniliform.
Most easily confused with Stentor which lacks contractile, ciliated tentacle-like structures.
The genus has been reported on 2 occasions from a lake in Hungary.
