Body elongate, rounded in cross-section. Anterior end broadly rounded not bent towards left. Body completely ciliated. Oral aperture in center of anterior quarter of ventral side. Oral apparatus composed of a basket of trichites. There is an extensive post-oral frange composed of a transversely orientated (slightly oblique) line of compound ciliary organelles. The frange traverses the complete ventral width and extends on both sides to the dorsal surface. Frange mounted on a low ridge. Macronucleus oval to elongate. At least 2 and usually many contractile vacuoles.
