Body discoid, laterally flattened with both sides flat. Body covered in pellicular armour. Posterior spines when present are not well developed. The only other spine present is the tooth-like spine above the AZM. 1 or 2 posterior cirri present. Perizonal complex short, with 5 single and 2 double rows. Single macronucleus and micronucleus. Sapropelic.
Most easily confused with Atopodinium which does not have cirri.
Several species.
