Epiclintes is a genus of contractile, elongate marine hypotrichs with oblique rows of cirri. Division morphogenesis of a population of E. ambiguus (O.F. Muller, 1786) from Great Bay estuary, New Hampshire, has a developmental pattern superficially unlike that of urostylids. Kerona is a genus with one species, K. polyporum Ehrenberg, 1835, a ciliate ecotocomensal on Hydra. Morphogenesis appears different also from the urostylid pattern and is described elsewhere. Since in addition neither Epiclintes nor Kerona appear to have midventral cirri, they are excluded here, provisionally, from the Urostylidae. Resolution of their taxonomic position lies beyond the scope of this paper. (ref. ID; 3925)
