Clathrostoma

Clathrostoma Penard, 1922 (ref. ID; 2014)

Class Oligohymenophora: Subclass Hymenostomata: Order Hymenostomatida (ref. ID; 2014)

[ref. ID; 2014]
Body elongate, oval to pyriform in outline with anterior end somewhat wider, broadly rounded at both poles. Medium sized ciliates (65 to 180 um long). There is an oval depression on the ventral surface at the bottom of which lies the slit-like or elongate oval oral aperture which is located in the anterior half of the body. A basket of long fibres leads into the cytoplasm from the oral aperture which is reminiscent of a basket of trichites as is found in the hypostomes. However, it is not a basket of trichites even through it may appear as such under the light microscope. Somatic ciliation uniform, with or without a post-oral suture. Trichocysts present. Macronucleus elongate to ovoid in shape with 1 to 4 micronuclei present grouped together.
