Circolagenophrys ampulla (ref. ID; 4216)

Descriptions

Circolagenophrys ampulla was always found on the faces of the gills of G. pulex, never on the gill edges. These gill faces were free of other epizooic protozoa. Where several C. ampulla were grouped together, they were oriented with their lorica openings facing the same direction. The loricae are smooth-surfaced, dome-shaped, and roughly 50 um in diameter although the size may vary. The loricastome's thickened anterior and posterior lips are located a few micrometers from the anterior edge of the lorica and directed almost at right angles away from the gill surface. (ref.
