Canellana

Canellana Jankowski, 1967 (ref. ID; 2013)

Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Suctoria: Order Suctorida: Suborder Exogenina (ref. ID; 2013)

[ref. ID; 2013]
Body an inverted conical shape lying within a distinct and easily distinguishable cup-like lorica. The latter is flattened, borne upon a stalk and there is an apical slit-like aperture although neither body nor tentacles protrude beyond the aperture. The short capitate tentacles are arranged in 2 fascicles. Macronucleus ovoid. This single species genus is found in Lake Baikal growing upon the gammarid crustacean Axelboekia carpenteri. It was originally described by Swarczewsky (1928) as Thecacineta baikalica and erected as a single species genus by Jankowski (1967). Canellana is most easily confused with Acineta.
