Body spherical with a small adhesive protoplasmic stalk-like projection by which the animal attached itself to the substratum. Without a lorica. Capitate tentacles in 2, 3 or 4 fascicles. 2 contractile vacuoles present. Macronucleus ovoid and approximately centrally placed.
The genus is most easily confused with Tokophrya which has a proper stalk not containing protoplasm.
