Astylozoon

Astylozoon Engelmann, 1862 (ref. ID; 2014, 5801) reported year? (ref. ID; 1618)

Class Oligohymenophora: Subclass Peritricha: Order Peritrichida: Suborder Sessilina (ref. ID; 2014)

Synonym Geleiella Stiller (ref. ID; 1618)

[ref. ID; 2014]
Inverted bell-shaped body with a peristomial disc that is held forward when swimming. Cilia of the peristomial disc wind anticlockwise around the cytostome (a peritrich character). Aboral end without stalk or suckers etc., but there are several short stiff cilia or spines. The genus may easily be confused with Hastatella which has 2 to 4 rings of long conical ectoplasmic processes on the body. Also could be mistaken for Telotrochidium or Opisthonecta which always have a girdle of aboral cilia present.
