Lorica vase-shaped, consisting of a funnel-like collar and an elongate bowl; oral margin generally circular, entire; bowl always provided with 3 or 4 well-marked fins; aboral end usually truncated; wall hyaline, thickened and trilamellated in the collar, thin and single-layered in the bowl. Descriptions

Lorica elongate, 3.1-3.7 oral diameters in length; collar funnel-shaped, widely flaring (70-85 degrees), its basal diameter 0.58-0.61 of an oral diameter; bowl cylindrical in its anterior one third, becoming triangular aborally in cross section owing to development of three ridges stretching up to the upper 0.37 of the total length of the lorica from truncated aboral end which is slightly concave transversely; wall hyaline, separated in the upper part of a circular cross section and single-layered in the lower. Lorica 2.2-2.6 oral diameters in length, consisting of a collar of the circular cross-section and a triangular bowl, narrowest at the base of the collar, its smallest transdiameter 0.71-1.79 of the oral diameter; collar an inverted, truncated, concave cone of 65-75 degrees; bowl cylindrical in the little upper part, triangular in the lower region with three prismatic longitudinal ridges; aboral end transversely concave; wall having separated lamellae in the anterior region of the lorica, fused posteriorly into a single lamina and thinning. This species has hyaline lorica. Specimens prepared for SEM collapsed, due apparently, to the lack of reticulation and the thin wall. Specimens had blunt, flat aboral ends, with 3 prominent ridges extending over the posterior 2/3 of the lorica. The anterior flared slightly. (ref. ID; 4046)

Comments

The species differs from A. quadrilineata (Claparede & Lachmann) in slender contour. (ref. ID; 3597)
Differs from Amphorella quadrilineata (Claparede & Lachmann) in having three instead of four fins. (ref. ID; 3606)

Descriptions

Lorica tall urn-shaped, 2.5 oral diameters in length; collar low funnel-shaped, its basal diameter 0.68-0.78 oral diameters; bowl circular in cross section in the anterior part, but gradually triangular in the posterior on account of development of three conspicuous fins extended through the entire bowl; aboral end truncate, more or less concave in its center. (ref. ID; 3596)

Comments

Because the lower part of the lorica is triangular, frontal and side views of a specimen are different. The species differs from A. brandti Jorgensen in having a stouter form and from A. infundibulum Kofoid & Campbell in the structure of the collar and fins. (ref. ID; 3596)
